Karl Rove Is Coming To Town

This morning on a coffee run, I glanced at the cover of the local free right wing rag, and there was a picture of Karl Rove staring at me. Intrigued, I picked up a copy to learn that Turd Blossom himself would be speaking in my area in the glorious NC-11 district on April 28th, and the public is invited! Karl Rove is speaking at around 4 PM.

I will have a camera, a notepad, and be on my best behavior, until he is done prevaricating. What happens at fight club, stays at fight club after that though. He is likely to lie, because that is what he does, and the media attention will be scant, and under the radar since this is not happening in NY or DC, so your intrepid local blogger will be there. Anybody in the area who wants to take a glance at Satan, please come along too. The groundrules, yes there are groundrules, is that only local Republican muckity muck officials are allowed to vote, or ask the evil one questions. Failure to comply will obviously result in your dismissal.

The event will be held at West Hendersonville High School in Hendersonville. Here is a handy map.

Another point I want to make. This local right wing paper, the Asheville Tribune is terrible. It's not just the right wing views, which as a liberal of course, I support. It's their right to say any stupid thing they want to with their own ink. It's just the logic they employ. Part of the article is an attack piece on Heath Shuler for "lying" to the voters.

Here is a sample. It's not online, so I am just typing it out.
Shuler, in turn, is seen as vulnerable due to his liberal votes early in the 210th Congress. Shuler pleged to vote "mountain values," but critics say his votes look more like "Pelosi Politics".

Yeah, what critics? Some people say that this paper just made this crap up. Some people say they aren't even worthy of fishwrap. They continue with Shuler's high crimes and misdemeanors.
His first vote was to support Pelosi as Speaker of the House

How dare he. This is an outrage. A democratic congressman did not vote for John Boehner for speaker, but instead voted for the Majority Leader of his own party? Damn it. Just because every other member of the caucus voted for her, doesn't make it right that he joined in like a lemming. If I recall, one democrat voted against his own party in the speaker role in the 90's. Remember that crazy politician with a toupee from Ohio? James Trafficant is in prison at this moment for corruption, but still he had mountain, or Ohio values and bucked the trend of 99.9% of politicians from both parties. How dare Heath Shuler not follow his lead? Mountain values my ass.

Anyways, the right wing machine is gunning for Shuler. They are running ads against him up here already. The visit from Uncle Karl reinforces the idea that they consider Shuler vulnerable and are willing to spend big bucks to unseat him.

I am hoping that Karl Rove has a change of heart, denounces all his dirty tricks, decides to give his life over to Buddha. If not, I will be there to document the atrocities.

The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions

Several congressional committees want to take a looksie at email traffic on the RNC server with the adress gwb43.com. According to the LA Times today, several laptops loaded with this domain name were handed out to top White House officials including Karl Rove with good intentions. They would use these computers for political work, and avoid using government equipment for politics. Ummm, yeah.

Some Republicans believe that the huge number of e-mails — many written hastily, with no thought that they might become public — may contain more detailed and unguarded inside information about the administration's far-flung political activities than has previously been available.

"There is concern about what may be in these e-mails," said one GOP activist who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the subject.

"The system was created with the best intentions," said former Assistant White House Press Secretary Adam Levine, who was assigned an RNC laptop and BlackBerry when he worked at the White House in 2002. But, he added, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions."

Several emails from these accounts were involved in discussions of Jack Abramoff's contacts with the White House, the justice department firings have already been discovered because they accidentally sent it to recipients with government addresses.
They are terrified. I am guessing that from January 2001 to the present, they decided that these laptops were like unbugged phones where you could do dirty tricks, plot legally questionable activities, and any subpoena of government records would not find these conversations.

That is where they went wrong. Karl Rove was banking on the Republicans holding the congress permanently. A hallmark of this administration is arrogance, along with corruption, and intellectual laziness. They are going to be in a world of hurt if these records get revealed. You just know with the kind of people running the shop, there will be emails that include government activities along with comments, plans that would be looked upon "unfavorably" by most people if ever exposed to the light of day.

The next two years are going to be loads of fun.

Bush's Statement on Subpoena's Leaves Wiggle Room

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush warned Democrats Tuesday to accept his offer to have top aides testify about the firings of federal prosecutors only privately and not under oath, or risk a constitutional showdown from which he would not back down.

Democrats' response to his proposal was swift and firm. "Testimony should be on the record and under oath. That's the formula for true accountability," said Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Bush, in a late-afternoon statement at the White House, said, "We will not go along with a partisan fishing expedition aimed at honorable public servants. ... I proposed a reasonable way to avoid an impasse."

So this means Karl Rove is free to testify under oath. Thanks President Bush.

Russia Holding Elections Using The Bush Doctrine

MOSCOW - Russians voted Sunday in scattered regional ballots marred by complaints that opposition forces are being frozen out of the country's politics.

Although two mainstream parties and a smattering of smaller ones are on the ballot for legislatures in 14 of Russia's 86 regions, critics say the appearance of genuine pluralism is only superficial.

Many of the voters who turned out in early morning in St. Petersburg, one of the election regions, expressed dismay that some parties had been barred from the ballot.

The liberal Yabloko party was not allowed on the ballot in Russia's second city because electoral officials ruled that more than 10 percent of the signatures checked by authorities were invalid. The party says its appeals were thwarted even after people whose signatures were ruled invalid testified to their authenticity.

Karl Rove was seen this morning in Moscow, wiping a tear from his eye muttering softly, "They are all grown up now", before a meeting with a Russian "businessman" in an alley behind a bar.

Seriously though, I looked into pootie-poot's eyes, and I saw George W. Bush. They genuinely are soul mates. That is where people are wrong to be dissapointed in Vladimir Putin. He is like Bush, and Bush infatuated himself, was in love. Putin is just more efficient at killing his critics. It's true. We each have something to teach each other. It's part of being in the world family, and the league of nations, and the coalition of those willing to urinate on their citizens. So far it's us and Russia. Let's not forget to invite Poland.

Bush’s New US Attorney a Criminal?

Read Greg Palast's story on Timothy Griffin. He is the Karl Rove opposition researcher who has been picked to replace the fired US attorney in Arkansas. Apparently he has been involved in vote suppression of minorities, which is illegal. Disgusting, but par for the course.
