There is a Washington Times story about the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), and their dropping support. You too can detect the wingnuttery. Their chief source is a Fox News Muslim named M. Zuhdi Jasser, who I have written about in the past. He he defended Frank Gaffney (a genuine lunatic) when PBS cut the funds for his "nuanced" documentary on Islam in America. Jasser is quoted often by Fox, Bill Bennett, National Review, and of course the Moonie Times.
This story is about how CAIR's membership has tanked in the wake of 9/11. The thrust of the piece is about how radical they are, and how they don't represent muslims in the U.S. If the data is accurate, and being the Washington Times, that isn't a guarantee, my quick hypothesis is that muslims in this country are cancelling their memberships in alot of organizations so they don't get Gitmo'd. I bet the American-Muslim Olsen Twins Club dropped members too. We have tortured innocent people, or rendered them to places like Syria with pretty flimsy evidence.
My point is not to defend CAIR, but to show how journalism is practiced in the right wing media. A credible news organization wouldn't have printed such a hackish piece as this. When is the gang of 500 going to take the brave step in saying that a newspaper run by a lunatic who thinks he is the re-incarnation of Jesus is not a mainstream outlet?
Just wondering.
