Frank Gaffney Is A Victim of PBS

Frank Gaffney is bitching today in the Washington Times about his movie "Islam vs. Islamists" being shelved by PBS. Gaffney is one of the most obnoxious neo-cons on the planet. If you ever watch Fox News, see a balding, bearded man who looks and acts like a real asshole, it is likely Gaffney.

Gaffney got in trouble a few months ago, when he attributed a quote to Abraham Lincoln, that Lincoln never uttered.

"Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged." — President Abraham Lincoln.

It turns out that a sloppy right wing historian accidentally came up with the quote, and attributed his words to Lincoln, leading to much confusion. Anyhow, PBS under the direction of Bush hack Kenneth Tomlinson authorized funding for documentaries about Islam. Tomlinson was infamous for doing a "loyal bushie" test before it became cool.

Gaffney and his partners got $675,000 in grant money to do a documentary about Islam, because you know when Frank Gaffney is involved, he is going to get it right. The executives at PBS say it is crap. The focus of the documentary is the suppression of moderate muslims in the U.S. by radical Islamists. It is a festering problem. You never hear about the larger culture picking on moderate muslims. It is those Osama followers who always are out there attacking their co-religionists, or at least they are in Gaffney's world.

In the Washington Times article, one of the little wallflower muslims who is persecuted is a man by the name of Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser. He is the director of the "American Islamic Forum for Democracy". This is looking to be an astroturf group and a lucrative sideline. You know the deal. You get an Arab guy, a black guy, or somebody of that type to start a foundation saying right wing republicans are wonderful, and I am here to denounce most people of my minority group who are critical of right wing Republicans. It's a wonderful way to get funding.

Jasser has appeared on the Bill Bennett show, Fox News, is talked up in the Washington Times, National Review as a good guy. He apparently is picked on alot though. Perhaps it's for PR releases to news wires that denounce CAIR for defending Imans who were tossed off an airplane for praying too loudly. He also praised US Airways as a mighty fine patriotic company. Money in the bank.

I wonder how Frank Gaffney found him for this truth telling excercise. I also question how PBS didn't absolutely kill this project instead of just shelving it. There are honest conservatives out there. Right? Frank Gaffney isn't one of them. This guy is one sleazy bastard. I have no objections with PBS funding conservative points of view. Frank Gaffney though does not deserve any welfare from the government. He should just take the money, run and stay off my tv.
