Damned Crazy People

Today's tragedy in West Virginia is a tragic event in every sense of the word. No matter what the courts would have said, the person who did this was crazy in the sense of something missing in them, a switch turned off, one that makes us not try to murder dozens of innocent people.

What we are going to get are people advocating their causes one way or the other. Gun control people will argue we need to get rid of guns. NRA types will suggest we start arming toddlers for protection, and in the midst of all this posturing, both sides will be standing atop the bloody bodies of the victims, posing for posterity not giving a damn about what their actions do to the families of the victims. The usual suspects are going to be running to the salon right now to be preened for Larry King, for Hardball, for Hannity & Colmes.

My one suggestion is to turn the damned tv off right now and fight against another human instinct of voyeurism. There are going to be hundreds of family members and thousands of friends whose hearts are going to be breaking tonight. Let the dead be buried, the families grieve without our eyeballs fixated on the prurient coverage. By following along with the if it bleeds it leads type coverage, we just guarantee more inane coverage of topics like Anna Nicole Smith, and the other missing white woman of the week story.

Talk to your families about what this means. Help your kids understand that they are relatively safe, and hope that this madness will not be repeated any time soon. The media just live off of this. Damned crazy people. Don't feed the beast.

Update:Glenn Reynolds (AKA Instapundit) is the first jackass out of the box. I won't link to him, because he is evil and in the words of his master, a major league asshole.
