Charles Krauthammer, the psychiatrist/lunatic wingnut, is infamous for several things. He is often wrong, he violates professional ethics by diagnosing democrats with mental disorders for disagreeing with him, and for his monogrammed colostomy bag.
Today, he suggests that Alberto Gonzales should resign, but not for reasons that rational people might suggest.
It's not a question of probity, but of competence. Gonzales has allowed a scandal to be created where there was none. That is quite an achievement. He had a two-foot putt and he muffed it.
Oh, there was no actual scandal here at all. It was just management of PR that apparently is the problem. In a twisted way, this makes perfect GOP sense. The actual facts aren't what matter, it is the way you make them appear that does, and Gonzales has failed in that regard, and for this reason must depart.
Why shouldn't there be White House involvement? That is nothing to be defensive about. Does anyone imagine that Janet Reno fired all 93 U.S. attorneys in March 1993, giving them all of 10 days to clear out, without White House involvement?
The Bush administration fired eight.
What an asshole! Krauthammer is trying to mislead his very stupid readers into believing that only Clinton ever dismissed attorneys, and he fired 93 of them! Bush only fired 8. Of course all recent Presidents dismiss attorneys at the start of their term. Reagan did, Bush I did, Clinton did, and Commander Cuckoo Bananas did as well. The scandal is that the prosecutors were dismissed in the middle of their terms, some working cases against Republicans, and another refusing under pressure to indict a democrat to benefit a GOP incumbant's re-election campaign.
You say tomato, I say Krauthammer is a douchebag.
