A Constitutional Amendment Against Hypocrisy
If a member of congress or the president sign into a law penalizing a non violent consentual activity, or publically endorses a set punishment for "these crimes", there is no statute of limitations applicable to them if it is revealed that they committed the offense themselves. They shall be tried to the fullest extent of the law.
It is tiring to read yet another story about the moral police who have used drugs or prostitutes in the past, then voting in laws to put people away in prison for a long time for something they have done themselves. If holding marijuana means hard time, fine. You should confess, resign from congress, and do the prison time you deserve.
Laws that only catch a modicum of infractors, especially those of a moral nature, are unjust by their very nature. If 100 people smoke a joint for everyone imprisoned by it, what lesson is the person in jail on our dime going to take from this? The only job he can get now is at McDonalds? If he wasn't caught, he could have been the Senator from Minnesota? That means you Norm Coleman.
If we are serious about moral crimes, lets go all Orwell. Random urinalysis of everybody every day. Spy cameras on every street corner detecting who is having sex in a non missionary position.
Otherwise, just give it a rest. That means you David Vitter.

John over at Americablog makes a great point. Remember a few months back when Barbara Boxer was "outrageous" by suggesting to Condi that having kids in Iraq would change your perspective? Now, the White House is using that as an excuse for Matthew Dowd becoming a dissident.

House Democrats are set tomorrow to bring in private sector lawyers -- at a cost of up to $225,000 over the next nine months -- to help committee staff investigate the Bush administration.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr., Michigan Democrat, has drawn up a contract with Washington law firm Arnold & Porter for help in his investigation of the firing of eight federal prosecutors last year, according to an unsigned copy of the contract obtained by The Washington Times.
Republicans denounced the move as "scandal-mongering."
"It doesn't take a quarter-million dollars and an army of lawyers to conclude that U.S. attorneys serve at the pleasure of the president, unless you're a Democrat with a political dog-and-pony show to produce," said Brian Kennedy, a spokesman for House Minority Leader John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican.
"If the goal is to distract from the fact that Democrats have no long-term agenda, they're going to need an outside PR firm, not lawyers," Mr. Kennedy said.
Yeah, $225,000 is a great deal of money to be spent investigating the President's Justice Department to investigate attorneys possibly being fired for political reasons including for not timing prosecutions with elections in New Mexico.
Whitewater cost $60,000,000. We learned that the President lies about sex, and that Monica Lewinsky doesn't swallow or use a dry cleaner often. But that investigation was legitimate and so cost affordable.
This fine citizen Brian Kennedy works for the Boner. The Boner of course supported the impeachment of Bill Clinton, refused to call for Bob Ney's resignation even after Ney admitted taking bribes, and was famous for passing out checks on the house floor from tobacco lobbyists, when a bill killing the subsidy was under debate.
The congressman knows ethics. He apparently teaches his staff well too. The point that continually comes to my mind is hypocrisy. The Republicans investigated Socks the cat for fuck's sake. They investigated the Clinton's Christmas card list. They spent 140 hours on that, 12 hours on Abu Ghraib for those keeping score.
Will the media just simply call them on this crap once? One time is all I am asking. If it was ok to investigate Bill Clinton to the tune of tens of millions of dollars for bullshit, why is it a waste of money to spend $225,000? I know the answer already.

I often hear religious conservatives discuss the sanctity of life, but more often than not their actions tell a different story. That is why I call them the right to birth movement. For many (not all) once the baby is born, then tough shit they are on their own. Don't you ask for welfare, government schools, day care, health care or any of that socialist garbage. Who do you think we are anyways?
As General Peter Pace presides over millions of refugees, hundreds of thousands of dead, of torture in Abu Ghraib, of rape and murder of Iraqi civilians, he has declared that homosexuality is "immoral". He wasn't being sarcastic. Millions of people have lost relatives in Iraq to this war, and he declares that two people having sex is what is actually disgusting.
So, all you cafeteria Catholic right wingers, I mean you Bill O'Donohue and Michael Novak, continue to scream for bloody pre-emptive wars, the death penalty, cuts in social services, and capital punishment the more gruesome the better. Pardon me while I vomit a bit in my mouth.
I will keep on giving your views the attention they deserve; scorn, disgust, and ridicule.

Back in 1995, when Clinton was considering sending peace keepers into Bosnia, the U.S. Senate Republican Policy Committee wrote a long memo suggesting that congress needed to massively oversee whatever he did, including the amount of troops that Clinton could send. They proposed that it was the congressional role to micromanage and evaluate any decision that "the decider" in the oval office had to make. My favorite quote is the following.
It is critical for the Administration to set out the conditions for withdrawal prior to deployment. Is the Administration intent on maintaining a U.S. presence in Bosnia indefinitely and if so, at what level?
Of course this is just the latest example of the lack of consistency. My favorite little fact about the hypocrisy is Trent Lott shouting a resounding no for impeaching Nixon while in the House, yet seeing that Clinton's blowjob was a far greater crime against humanity than anything Nixon did, and voting to convict Clinton while Lott was a member of the Senate. If only Strom Thurmond had become President. If only.
