Baby Einstein Is Retarded
A study has confirmed what I have suspected. Those Baby Einstein videos aren't doing crap for your kids, but they are making you poorer. It turns out that talking to your kids, and watching educational programming developed for the mindset of a pre-schooler does a better job in developing vocabulary skills in young kids.
I was watching the Disney version of Little Einsteins and the kids were talking to their rocket ship about visiting Australia to see a wallaby. At the start of the episode they introduce classical music, and a classical painting because that of course makes your kid really smart. One episode had the kids in the show tell us the music was by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. It's important for a child who still poos in his diaper to know that.
The kids whose parents put them in front of these dvds had an average of six to eight fewer words in their vocabulary. I suspect most of them couldn't even say Nikolai Rimsky-Koraskov either.
