A second Senate Republican stepped forward today to suggest that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should leave his post because of the way the Justice Department handled the firings of eight federal prosecutors, USA TODAY's Kathy Kiely tells us.
"For the Justice Department to be effective before the U.S. Senate, it would be helpful" if Gonzales resigned, Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., told Kiely.
Meanwhile, GOP Sen. Norm Coleman of Minnesota said he is "deeply concerned about how this whole process has been handled."
I am sure the fact that the Republicans stepping forward happen to be from swing states, and face tough re-election bids has nothing to do with this whatsoever.
