Amanda Marcotte Resigns From Edwards Campaign

First hear what Amanda has to say, and I have my own two cents to add.

I was hired by the Edwards campaign for the skills and talents I bring to the table, and my willingness to work hard for what’s right. Unfortunately, Bill Donohue and his calvacade of right wing shills don’t respect that a mere woman like me could be hired for my skills, and pretended that John Edwards had to be held accountable for some of my personal, non-mainstream views on religious influence on politics (I’m anti-theocracy, for those who were keeping track). Bill Donohue—anti-Semite, right wing lackey whose entire job is to create non-controversies in order to derail liberal politics—has been running a scorched earth campaign to get me fired for my personal beliefs and my writings on this blog.

In fact, he’s made no bones about the fact that his intent is to “silence” me, as if he—a perfect stranger—should have a right to curtail my freedom of speech. Why? Because I’m a woman? Because I’m pro-choice? Because I’m not religious? All of the above, it seems.

Bill Donohoe is a part of the vast right wing conspiracy. This was not about "Catholic" issues, is was about electoral politics. Donohoe defended both Mel Gibson and Michael Richards for their anti-semetic remarks yet of course would not accept the apology from the Edwards' bloggers. That isn't the point. This is politics. The media should be ashamed for giving him an unfiltered microphone.

I am not disputing that what Amanda wrote prior to joining the Edwards campaign could be discussed. I am disputing the media not attaching any labels to Donohoe, treating him as just a random outraged Catholic critic. It is unfair, and untrue.

Here are some of the board of advisers to the group. Brent Bozell, Linda Chavez, Dinesh D’Souza, Alan Keyes, Lawrence Kudlow, Michael Novak, and Kate O'Beirne. I just listed the people any media member worth their salt would know of off the top of their head. Does this look to anybody like a list of objective, non-partisan people?

They are a political group. They are allowed to make politically based attacks. It's the media's job to inform the public what the agenda is of this group when they make these kind of attacks, still allowing it, but not letting them hide behind a title.
